Description
Bending sheet metal brackets on an ironworker punch station produces inconsistent angle bends without dedicated bottom tooling. The Edwards 10in Brake with 4 Way Die attachment mounts directly into the punch pocket to form accurate bends up to 90 degrees. It handles 10-inch widths of 1/4-inch mild steel plate. Short tooling width limits use on large structural pan forming.
The upper punch blade utilizes heat-treated high-carbon tool steel ground to a standard 85-degree profile for air bending and bottoming operations. The four-way lower die block is machined from a solid billet of 4140 chrome-moly steel to resist sidewall bowing under high tonnage. Tool steel locating pins secure the brake fixture into standard Edwards ironworker guide receivers.
Precision Plate Forming Tooling Platform
Dropping this tooling package into the punch workstation converts basic punching capacity into an efficient sheet metal brake. Operators change die openings by rotating the four-sided bottom die block.
- 10-inch forming length handles flat bar stock, structural tabs, and electrical enclosure brackets.
- Four-way lower die features distinct vee openings of 1/2-inch, 1-inch, 1-1/2-inch, and 2-inch widths.
- 4140 alloy steel construction withstands 55 Ton through 110 Ton hydraulic ram downforce.
- Adjustable back gauge fingers allow repeatable flange depth setups on batch fabrication jobs.
- Machined guide pins center the upper punch blade directly above bottom die vee channels.
- Quick-mount receiver base bolts onto the ironworker bolster plate using factory bolt holes.
- Upper blade ground tip radius produces clean inside bend profiles on 1/4-inch plate stock.
Hydraulic Tonnage Distribution Telemetry
Forming a 90-degree bend across a 10-inch wide strip of 1/4-inch A36 plate requires 32 tons of hydraulic ram force on a 2-inch vee opening. Ironworker hydraulic line pressure rises to 2400 PSI during initial material yield before dropping as the bend angle forms. Die steel interface temperatures reach 112°F during repetitive high-rate bracket bending. Deflection across the upper punch center measures 0.0018 inches at maximum 40 Ton load input.
Forming Limitations Maintenance Rules
Fabricators producing gussets, mounting feet, and custom machinery guards gain clean bending capabilities without buying a standalone press brake. Do not buy this unit for bending material wider than 10 inches or plate exceeding 5/16-inch thickness because exceeding bottom die capacity will split the vee walls. Never use bottom die openings narrower than eight times the material thickness on heavy plate.
- Wipe mill scale out of the lower vee grooves after every ten bends to prevent workpiece surface marring.
- Apply light anti-corrosion oil to all unpainted ground forming surfaces at the end of each work shift.
- Check mounting bolt torque on the bolster plate daily to prevent tool shifting under hydraulic downforce.
- Rotate the four-way die block with a lifting sling to prevent pinch injuries during setup changes.
Tool Warranty Accessory Manifest
