Description
Weigela florida ‘SMNWFMS’ Midnight Wine Shine® is a striking deciduous shrub known for its exceptionally deep, wine-colored foliage that adds dramatic contrast in garden landscapes throughout the growing season. Originating from traditional Weigela florida species, this cultivar has been selectively bred to enhance foliage color intensity and maintain a compact, rounded form, typically reaching 3 to 4 feet in height and width. In late spring and early summer, Midnight Wine Shine® produces tubular pink flowers that attract hummingbirds and pollinators, complementing its dark leaves beautifully. This variety is valued for its adaptability to a range of soil types, drought tolerance once established, and its ability to thrive in full sun to part shade conditions. Its unique combination of vibrant foliage and delicate blooms make it a popular choice for mixed borders, foundation plantings, and ornamental hedges. Recognized by horticultural experts for its ornamental value, Midnight Wine Shine® has been featured in several plant trials and recommended by leading garden institutions for adding bold color and year-round interest to landscapes.
