Description
Viola cornuta ‘Citrus Mixture,’ commonly known as Horned Violet, is a charming perennial known for its vibrant and diverse blend of citrus-toned blooms ranging from soft yellows and oranges to warm pinks. Originating from the mountainous regions of the Pyrenees in Europe, this variety has been selectively bred to enhance its colorful display and compact growth habit, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and rock gardens. The Horned Violet is appreciated for its distinctive “horned” petals—small spur-like extensions that add unique texture and dimension to the flowers. It thrives in well-drained soil with partial shade, offering extended bloom periods throughout spring and fall. This cultivar is also valued for its versatility and ease of care, exhibiting good resistance to heat and drought relative to other violas. ‘Citrus Mixture’ has garnered positive recognition for its ornamental appeal and adaptability in temperate landscapes, making it a favorite among gardeners seeking perennial color with low maintenance.
