Description
Viburnum x burkwoodii, commonly known as Burkwood viburnum, is a hybrid deciduous shrub prized for its fragrant, creamy-white spring flowers and glossy, dark green foliage that often takes on attractive reddish-purple hues in fall. Developed in the early 20th century by crossing Viburnum utile and Viburnum carlesii, this plant combines the best traits of its parents, including excellent cold hardiness and ornamental appeal. It typically grows to a moderate size, making it ideal for hedges, foundation plantings, or mixed borders. The intensely fragrant blooms attract pollinators, while its dense growth habit offers year-round privacy and structure in the landscape. Recognized for its versatility and resilience, Burkwood viburnum is a favorite in temperate gardens and landscapes across the United States.
