Description
Tristaniopsis laurina, commonly known as Water Gum, is an evergreen tree native to eastern Australia, valued for its distinctive glossy, lance-shaped leaves and smooth, mottled bark that peels away to reveal attractive new growth. This medium-sized tree typically grows up to 20-30 feet tall, making it an excellent choice for small landscapes, street plantings, and as a specimen tree in gardens. Water Gum produces clusters of bright yellow, fluffy flowers in late summer to fall, which not only add visual interest but also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Its tolerance to a variety of soil types, including wet conditions, along with good drought resistance once established, makes it a versatile and low-maintenance option for landscapes. The Water Gum’s striking bark and vibrant flowers have earned it recognition among garden enthusiasts for both ornamental and functional uses, particularly in urban settings where it provides shade and aesthetic appeal.
