Description
Stromanthe sanguinea ‘Tricolor’, commonly known as Tricolor or Triostar, is a striking tropical perennial prized for its vibrant, variegated foliage that features a captivating mix of green, cream, pink, and deep red hues. Native to the rainforests of Brazil, this member of the Marantaceae family is valued for its dramatic, arrow-shaped leaves that add bold color and texture to indoor and shaded garden environments. Its unique characteristic is the ability of its leaves to fold up at night, a nyctinastic movement that enhances its ornamental appeal. Tricolor thrives in bright, indirect light with high humidity, making it an excellent choice for tropical-themed landscapes or as a standout houseplant. The cultivar has gained popularity for its ease of care compared to other variegated tropicals and is celebrated for its air-purifying qualities. Though primarily grown for its foliage rather than flowers, the plant sometimes produces small, inconspicuous blooms. Its introduction to horticulture has brought a fresh, colorful dimension to interior plant collections and shaded garden beds, where it serves as a vibrant focal point.
