Description
Spiraea prunifolia ‘Plena’, commonly known as Bridal Wreath Spiraea, is a deciduous shrub celebrated for its stunning early spring display of double, pure white flowers that densely cover arching branches, creating a cascading, bridal veil effect. Native to East Asia, particularly China and Korea, this species has been cultivated for centuries in ornamental gardens for its graceful habit and profuse blooms. The finely toothed, ovate leaves emerge bright green and provide attractive summer foliage before turning yellow in fall, adding multi-season interest. Growing to approximately 6 feet tall and wide, Bridal Wreath Spiraea is adaptable to a range of soil types and thrives in full sun to partial shade, making it a versatile choice for hedges, borders, or specimen planting. Its ease of maintenance, outstanding floral show, and resistance to common pests and diseases have made it a favorite among gardeners and landscape designers alike. This cultivar has been acknowledged by various horticultural societies for its ornamental value and consistent performance in temperate climates.
