Description
Senecio cineraria, commonly known as Dusty Miller, is a striking perennial plant valued for its silvery-gray, finely textured foliage that provides year-round interest and contrast in garden beds and containers. Native to the Mediterranean region, this hardy plant thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, exhibiting excellent drought tolerance and pest resistance, making it a popular choice for low-maintenance landscapes. Dusty Miller’s unique, velvety leaves form a dense, mounding habit that brightens borders and complements vibrant flowering plants with its cool-toned foliage. Historically, it has been cultivated since the 18th century for its ornamental qualities, and its name reflects the dusty, silver appearance of its leaves. This plant is often used in formal garden designs and as an accent in mixed plantings due to its architectural foliage. Recognized for its versatility and decorative appeal, Dusty Miller continues to be a favorite among gardeners and landscape professionals worldwide.
