Description
Salix alba ‘Tristis’, commonly known as the Golden Weeping Willow, is a striking deciduous tree renowned for its graceful, pendulous branches that create an elegant, cascading canopy. Native to Europe and parts of Asia, this cultivar is distinguished by its bright yellow-golden bark, especially vivid in winter, which adds year-round interest to landscapes. Typically growing rapidly to heights of 30 to 50 feet, the tree thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is often found along riverbanks and wetlands, making it an excellent choice for erosion control and water-adjacent plantings. The slender, lance-shaped leaves are green above and silvery beneath, turning a pale yellow in autumn before shedding. Historically, willows have been valued for their flexible branches used in basketry and their association with tranquility in garden design. The Golden Weeping Willow’s unique combination of fast growth, distinctive golden bark, and classic weeping form make it a timeless favorite in ornamental and functional landscape settings.
