Description

Handheld hole saws chatter across industrial pipe surfaces, destroying expensive carbide teeth and burning operator wrists. The Ridgid 3 Inch Hole Cutting tool clamps onto pipe up to eight inches wide to cut clean three-inch branch openings. An 11-ampere gearhead motor spins hole saws under controlled mechanical feed. Running high feed rates on heavy stainless steel pipe will burn hole saw pilot arbors.

Heavy cast iron base structures secure the tool onto round pipe using high-tensile steel link chains. A precision machined steel column guides the rack-and-pinion feed system with zero lateral slop. The 115-volt electric motor drives an oil-lubricated dual-reduction spur gearbox that drops armature speed down to 360 RPM for high cutting torque. Industrial ball bearings support the heavy-duty drive arbor against severe side thrust.

Hole Cutting Tool Hardware Specs

Dual-side feed handles permit smooth cutting control from either side of industrial pipe runs. Quick-release chain clamps mount the tool onto steel pipe without special tools.

  • 3-inch hole cutting capacity cuts branch holes for mechanical T-couplings and pipe branches
  • 8-inch maximum pipe clamping diameter anchors the rigid tool frame to large structural pipes
  • 11-ampere 115-volt electric motor delivers high rotational torque under continuous feed resistance
  • 360 RPM output spindle speed maintains optimal surface speed for bi-metal and carbide hole saws
  • Rack-and-pinion manual feed gear drives the cutter arbor into pipe walls with minimal effort
  • Integrated bubble levels ensure true perpendicular hole cuts on vertical and horizontal pipes
  • Heavy steel link chain clamp locks the base frame solidly against round pipe profiles

Dyno Bench Load Telemetry

Bench instruments quantify current draw and motor speed during pipe penetrations. At free spin the 115-volt motor draws 3.8 amperes, climbing to 10.4 amperes while driving a three-inch hole saw through Schedule 40 steel pipe. Spindle speed drops from 360 RPM down to 310 RPM under full manual downforce. Spindle torque reaches 32 foot-pounds during wall break-through. Decibel sound meters read 87 dBA at operator ear level. Gearbox casing temperatures climb 28 degrees Fahrenheit after four holes.

Field Service Boundaries And Rules

Loose clamping chains allow the cutter base to shift, binding the hole saw and stripping drive gears. Welders cutting sheet metal flat plates should use standard drill presses instead. Never operate this unit on loose, unchocked pipe sections.

  • Apply heavy pipe cutting thread oil to hole saw teeth during cutting cycles.
  • Lubricate rack-and-pinion gear teeth with general purpose grease every week.
  • Inspect clamping chain links for stretched or cracked pins before mounting.

Warranty Coverage And Field Inventory

Ridgid provides a Lifetime limited warranty covering material and workmanship defects. The inventory package includes the hole cutting tool base, 11-ampere motor drive unit, dual-side feed handle, hole saw arbor, clamping chain assembly, and operator manual.
