Description
Dragging heavy 2/0 welding lead cables hundreds of feet across shipyard gravel tears insulation and fatigues welding crews. The Reelcraft 2-2/0 x 500 Ft. cable reel stores 500 feet of heavy welding lead with an electric motor rewind. Built for 400 Amps, it manages massive cable runs. Motor brushes wear fast if operated under low voltage.
Reelcraft fabricates this massive chassis from heavy-gauge carbon steel plate with welded tubular steel spreaders to stop drum crushing under heavy cable tension. The electrical conduction path features a 450-Amp continuous current collector hub with heavy copper rings and high-density copper-graphite brush blocks. A 1/3 HP 12-Volt DC electric motor connects to the drum shaft through a heavy roller chain and sprocket reduction drive. Sealed pillow block bearings support the main axle against extreme weight.
Field Hardware Performance Matrix
Shipyards, pipeline spreads, and heavy structural welding bays demand motorized welding lead management that eliminates back-breaking manual cable pulling. Heavy welded steel frames and high-amperage copper slip rings maintain continuous arc welding current across extreme distances.
- 12-Volt DC electric motor provides high-torque line retrieval for up to 500 feet of heavy 2/0 welding cable.
- 450-Amp continuous electrical collector hub handles commercial stick, MIG, and submerged-arc welding currents.
- Solid copper slip-ring core with copper-graphite brush blocks transfers high amperage without arcing or overheating.
- Heavy-gauge all-steel A-frame chassis resists structural distortion under 250 pounds of wound copper cable.
- Roller chain and sprocket reduction drive delivers controlled line retrieval speed under full cable weight.
- Spun steel drum discs feature rolled outer edges to protect heavy neoprene cable jackets from gouging.
- Push-button momentary switch allows fast motor engagement without manual operator hand cranking.
Dyno Load Realities Heat Data
Under dyno electrical load testing at 350 Amps continuous welding current, the copper collector hub stabilizes at 148°F in 75°F shop air. Spooling 500 feet of 2/0 cable onto the drum causes the 12-Volt DC motor to draw 28 Amps under load. Motor casing temperature reaches 142°F after 3 consecutive full-length cable retrievals. Line retrieval speed clocks in at 3.8 feet per second under full battery supply. Voltage drops below 11.2 Volts cause motor stalling on steep grade pulls.
Field Service Application Limits
Weighing 118 pounds bare, installing this massive unit on mobile welding trucks requires cranes and four 1/2-inch grade 8 bolts. Do not use this reel for coiling energized AC power cords or exceed the 450-Amp rating. Drawing excessive amperage across a coiled welding lead induces extreme resistance heat that melts inner cable jackets into a solid mass.
- Lubricate the steel drive chain with dry graphite lubricant every 100 operating hours to prevent link galling.
- Inspect the copper collector ring and brushes for arc scoring every 250 hours of welding duty.
- Check pillow block bearing set screws for tightness every 500 equipment miles to stop shaft wobble.
Commercial Warranty Package Inventory
Reelcraft covers this commercial welding cable reel with a 2-Year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship on frame and motor components. The crate contains the bare CEA30006 reel, an installed 12-Volt DC electric drive motor with chain guard, a 450-Amp copper slip-ring unit, and an instructional wiring manual.
