Description
Pieris japonica ‘Cavatine’, commonly known as Japanese Andromeda, is an evergreen shrub prized for its compact form and year-round interest. This cultivar showcases glossy, dark green foliage that emerges with vibrant red-bronze new growth in spring, gradually maturing to deep green. Delicate, urn-shaped white flowers bloom in early spring, attracting pollinators and adding a graceful touch to shade or partial shade gardens. Native to the mountainous regions of Japan, Pieris japonica has been cultivated for centuries in East Asia for its ornamental beauty and resilience. ‘Cavatine’ is especially valued for its dwarf stature and dense habit, making it an excellent choice for foundation plantings, woodland gardens, or container culture. This cultivar thrives in acidic, well-drained soils and is noted for its deer resistance and low maintenance needs. Recognized for its exceptional compactness and ornamental appeal, ‘Cavatine’ has gained popularity among gardeners seeking year-round landscape interest in a manageable size.
