Description
Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Petite Plum’ ® Ninebark is a compact, deciduous shrub prized for its rich, deep plum-purple foliage that offers striking color contrast in garden landscapes throughout the growing season. Originating from the native Ninebark species, which is well-regarded for its adaptability and resilience across various soil types and climates, ‘Petite Plum’ delivers a more refined, dwarf growth habit, typically reaching about 3 to 4 feet in height, making it ideal for smaller garden spaces and container planting. This cultivar features attractive clusters of creamy-white flowers in late spring to early summer, which mature into ornamental seed heads, adding multi-season interest. The exfoliating, papery bark characteristic of Ninebarks adds winter appeal and texture to landscapes. Known for its excellent disease resistance, especially to common Physocarpus issues like leaf spot, ‘Petite Plum’ is a reliable choice for low-maintenance gardening. Its compact form combined with bold foliage color has earned it recognition from horticultural societies for both ornamental value and landscape versatility.
