Description
Phyla nodiflora, commonly known as Texas Frogfruit, is a low-growing, spreading perennial groundcover native to the southern United States, particularly Texas, and parts of Central and South America. This tough, drought-tolerant plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and is prized for its ability to quickly form a dense mat of small, bright green leaves that provide excellent erosion control and weed suppression. Its tiny, white to pale lavender flowers bloom profusely throughout the growing season, attracting pollinators such as butterflies and bees, and adding delicate visual interest to landscapes. Texas Frogfruit is well-suited for use in xeriscaping, as a lawn substitute, or in difficult-to-mow areas due to its resilience and low maintenance requirements. Historically, it has been valued in native and naturalized plant gardens for its adaptability and ecological benefits, supporting local wildlife while enhancing soil stability. Its unique combination of ornamental appeal and environmental functionality has made it a favored choice in sustainable landscaping projects across its native range.
