Description
Musa sumatrana ‘Rojo’, commonly known as the Red Banana Tree, is a striking tropical plant prized for its vibrant, deep red foliage and towering stature. Native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra, this banana species features broad, paddle-shaped leaves that develop rich burgundy to crimson hues, adding dramatic color contrast to landscapes and container gardens. Unlike common edible banana varieties, Musa sumatrana ‘Rojo’ is primarily grown for ornamental purposes, showcasing large clusters of pink to red banana-like fruits that are generally inedible but contribute to its exotic appeal. This durable plant thrives in warm, humid climates and prefers well-drained soils with partial to full sun exposure, making it an excellent focal point in tropical-themed gardens or as a striking accent in mixed borders. Its bold coloration and architectural form have earned recognition among landscape professionals and tropical plant enthusiasts, often highlighted in specialty plant collections and botanical gardens for its unique aesthetic and adaptability.
