Description
Pumping viscous muck and slow seepage kills centrifugal pumps through continuous cavitation and prime loss. The Multiquip Pump Diaphragm 3 Honda handles thick mud and air-entrained seepage at 85 GPM with 50 feet total head. Powered by a Honda GX120 engine, it moves 1.62-inch solids. The positive-displacement mechanism pulses hard, shaking lightweight discharge hoses loose if unpinned.
Multiquip builds this diaphragm wet end from heavy die-cast aluminum with a straight-through flow design to prevent sediment buildup. A heavy-duty neoprene diaphragm flexes via an enclosed oil-bath gearbox with heat-treated forged steel gears. Neoprene flapper check valves seat against vulcanized rubber seals on both suction and discharge manifolds. This diaphragm configuration moves soupy mud, continuous seepage, and abrasive sludge without requiring clean water prime.
Field Hardware Performance Matrix
Muddy ditches and slow-fill foundation footings destroy conventional pumps through dry running and air ingestion. This positive displacement diaphragm unit keeps moving slow slurry without losing suction prime.
- Honda GX120 3.5 HP engine provides continuous low-speed torque through an oil-submerged reduction gearbox.
- 3-inch male NPT suction and discharge ports move high-viscosity sludge up to 85 GPM.
- Heavy-duty thermoplastic neoprene diaphragm withstands continuous flex cycles without tearing or fatigue.
- Large flapper check valves pass chunky solid objects measuring up to 1.62 inches in diameter.
- Enclosed gear reduction drive runs in an oil bath to reject frictional heat under constant pumping.
- Integrated wheel kit with solid rubber tires enables one-man movement across rugged jobsite mud.
- Straight-through volute path prevents heavy gravel and thick silt from settling inside the housing.
Dyno Load Realities Heat Data
Bench testing this diaphragm unit reveals a steady 60 strokes per minute at 2800 engine RPM, burning 0.28 GPH of regular gasoline. Under continuous head load of 25 feet, the reduction gearbox oil reaches 168°F in 80°F shop air. Engine oil sump temperature stabilizes at 205°F during full load cycles. Sound output registers 78 dBA at 20 feet distance due to engine exhaust and mechanical diaphragm slap. Suction vacuum pulls 25 inches of mercury to draw mud straight from pit bottoms.
Field Service Application Limits
The 145-pound curb weight demands using the front handle and solid tires for site movement. Do not use this diaphragm pump for clean high-volume flood control or high-pressure water transfer. Running clean water at wide open throttle wears out diaphragms without delivering centrifugal-level output.
- Check gearbox oil through the fill plug sight hole every 250 hours and refill with 80W-90 gear lubricant.
- Inspect the rubber flapper check valves for embedded gravel or tears after every ditch dewatering job.
- Wash accumulated silt out from the upper diaphragm chamber before storing the machine between shifts.
