Description
Liriope muscari ‘Royal Purple’, commonly known as Lilyturf, is a striking evergreen perennial valued for its dense clumps of arching, strap-like foliage that emerges a deep, rich purple hue, creating vivid visual interest throughout the growing season. Originating from East Asia, this cultivar was developed to enhance the traditional green-leafed Liriope with its unique and vibrant purple leaves, making it a popular choice for groundcover, borders, and mass plantings in both residential and commercial landscapes. It produces delicate spikes of lavender-purple flowers in late summer to early fall, which add seasonal texture and attract pollinators. Known for its adaptability to a broad range of soil types, excellent drought tolerance once established, and resistance to deer and pests, ‘Royal Purple’ thrives in partial shade to full sun. This cultivar has gained recognition in horticultural circles for its ornamental foliage, combining both aesthetic appeal and low-maintenance care, making it a favored selection for color contrast and erosion control in garden design.
