Description
Liriodendron tulipifera ‘Fastigiata’, commonly known as the Fastigiata Tulip Tree, is a distinctive cultivar of the native American Tulip Tree renowned for its upright, columnar growth habit, making it an excellent choice for narrow landscapes or urban settings where space is limited. This deciduous tree features uniquely shaped leaves with four lobes and produces large, tulip-like flowers in late spring that showcase greenish-yellow petals with an orange band, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Valued for its rapid growth and striking vertical form, ‘Fastigiata’ combines the traditional beauty of Liriodendron tulipifera with a more compact silhouette, offering both ornamental appeal and shade. The species itself has a rich history as a significant timber tree in eastern North America, prized for its strong, straight wood, and has been cultivated since the 18th century for its aesthetic and practical uses in landscape design.
