Description
Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Hapdell’ Happidaze® Sweetgum is a striking deciduous tree renowned for its vibrant and long-lasting autumn foliage, showcasing a dramatic palette of fiery reds, oranges, and yellows that bring dynamic color to landscapes from mid-fall onward. This cultivar is a compact, well-branched form of the classic American sweetgum, prized for its manageable size and enhanced disease resistance, making it an excellent choice for residential and urban settings where space and maintenance are considerations. Originating from the eastern United States, the American sweetgum has a rich horticultural history valued for both its ornamental appeal and its resin, historically used for medicinal and fragrant purposes. Happidaze® has been developed to combine the species’ signature star-shaped leaves and distinctive spiky fruit with improved adaptability and year-round landscape interest, including attractive exfoliating bark that adds winter texture. Its adaptability to a range of soil types and tolerance to urban pollution further underscore its popularity in modern gardens and streetscapes.
