Description
Flatten wide hardwood timbers and rough-sawn lumber without grain tear-out or loud knife noise. The JET Black 20 Inch Helical head planer flattens rough boards across high-volume architectural woodworking and equipment maintenance shops. This heavy stationary planer surfaces dense hardwoods, trailer bed planks, and equipment workbenches. It cannot run on standard 115-volt single-phase power outlets.
A massive cast-iron machine bed, head casting, and four precision-ground steel support columns eliminate cutterhead deflection during deep lumber passes. The heavy 5HP single-phase electric motor transfers high cutting torque through triple V-belts. A segmented helical cutterhead houses four-sided solid carbide insert knives that shear wood fibers at an angle. Two-speed feed gearboxes shift board travel between sixteen and twenty feet per minute.
Helical Head Planer Hardware Details
Commercial millwork plants and landscape timber fabrication facilities rely on heavy stationary planers to size structural boards to precise dimensional tolerances. This machine handles continuous board surfacing shifts.
- 20-inch maximum planing width surfaces wide rough-sawn boards in single cutting passes
- 5HP single-phase 230-volt electric motor provides continuous torque through dense hardwoods
- Segmented helical cutterhead carries four-sided solid carbide inserts for clean surfaces
- Four-column bed support mechanism with dual column locks eliminates cutterhead snipe
- Two-speed feed gearbox shifts between 16 and 20 FPM for roughing or finish cuts
- Serrated steel infeed roller advances rough lumber across the precision-ground table
- Five-inch dust collection port exhausts high chip volumes away from the cutterhead
Cutterhead Bench Telemetry Surface Analysis
Motor dyno tests record 22 Amps continuous draw at 230 volts under full 1/8-inch stock removal passes across 18-inch wide red oak planks. The helical head spins at 5000 RPM, producing a glass-smooth 42 micro-inch surface finish. Sound pressure tests measure 81 dBA under active lumber planing, running 9 dBA quieter than straight-knife heads. Bed table deflection remains under 0.002 inches across the entire 20-inch width.
Stationary Surfacing Usability Boundary Filter
Operators set cut depth with the cast-iron handwheel, lock the four bed column clamps, and feed boards flat onto the cast infeed table. Support long lumber boards with external roller stands. Do not plane boards shorter than eight inches or lumber containing embedded metal fasteners.
- Carbide insert Torx screws require torque checks to 48 inch-pounds with a torque wrench
- Table elevation screw columns require cleaning and light grease every forty hours
- Dust collection connection requires minimum 900 CFM airflow to clear heavy chip loads
Commercial Warranty Machine Manifest Details
JET protects this 20-inch helical planer with a 5-Year commercial limited warranty. The wooden crate contains the stationary planer unit, cast-iron extension wings, magnetic starter switch, Torx driver wrenches, and operational setup manual.
