Description
Ilex x ‘Greenleaf’ Holly is a versatile and hardy evergreen shrub valued for its dense, glossy, dark green foliage and classic holly appeal. This hybrid holly, resulting from crosses within the Ilex genus, is prized for its adaptability to a wide range of soil types and its tolerance to urban conditions, making it an excellent choice for hedges, screens, and foundation plantings. ‘Greenleaf’ Holly features spiny, broad leaves that provide year-round texture and structure in the landscape, and while it can produce bright red berries when a male pollinator is nearby, its primary ornamental value lies in its robust evergreen foliage. Known for its low maintenance requirements and resistance to common pests and diseases, this cultivar has become a staple in southern and mid-Atlantic gardens. Although not widely documented for specific awards, its consistent performance and popularity among landscape professionals underscore its recognized value in ornamental horticulture.
