Description
Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Bocotoso’, commonly known as Toy Soldier™ Oakleaf Hydrangea, is a distinctive and compact cultivar prized for its striking multi-seasonal interest. Originating from the native oakleaf hydrangea species of the southeastern United States, this variety showcases bold, deeply lobed, oak-shaped leaves that transform with vibrant hues of red, purple, and bronze in the fall, adding year-round appeal. In late spring to early summer, it produces elongated, conical clusters of creamy white flowers that gradually age to pink, attracting pollinators and enhancing garden aesthetics. Notably more compact than typical oakleaf hydrangeas, Toy Soldier™ is ideal for smaller gardens or containers, offering a manageable size without sacrificing the species’ signature texture and color richness. This cultivar has been recognized for its superior compact form and exceptional autumn foliage, making it a standout choice for ornamental landscaping.
