Description
Hosta ‘Great Expectations’ is a striking perennial plantain lily known for its bold and attractive foliage, featuring large, textured leaves with a unique blue-green center surrounded by a creamy white margin that often intensifies in contrast as the season progresses. This variety is prized for its vigorous growth habit, reaching impressive sizes that make it an excellent choice for adding dramatic shade and texture to garden borders and woodland landscapes. Originating from hybridization efforts aimed at enhancing both leaf coloration and durability, ‘Great Expectations’ combines the best traits of classic hostas with improved tolerance to sun and heat compared to many traditional varieties. In addition to its ornamental leaves, it produces elegant lavender flower spikes in mid to late summer that attract pollinators like bees and hummingbirds. Recognized by horticultural societies for its garden performance and aesthetic appeal, Hosta ‘Great Expectations’ continues to be a favorite among gardeners seeking a reliable, visually compelling shade-loving perennial.
