Description
Helleborus x Winter Jewels ‘Fire and Ice’ is a striking hybrid Lenten rose renowned for its exceptional winter and early spring bloom period, providing vibrant color when few other perennials are flowering. This evergreen perennial features large, upward-facing flowers with a captivating blend of deep burgundy-red centers surrounded by icy white petal edges, creating a dramatic contrast that adds visual interest to shaded garden beds. Originating from hybridization efforts to improve cold tolerance and extend bloom time beyond traditional hellebores, ‘Fire and Ice’ thrives in part to full shade with well-drained soil and is deer-resistant, making it a favored choice for low-maintenance, shade-loving gardens. The plant’s foliage remains attractive year-round, showcasing leathery, dark green leaves that enhance garden texture during dormant seasons. Helleborus x Winter Jewels series, including ‘Fire and Ice,’ has been recognized for its garden performance and ornamental appeal, often highlighted by horticultural organizations for winter interest and extended bloom seasons.
