Description
Caryopteris x clandonensis ‘Blue Mist’, commonly known as Bluebeard, is a compact, deciduous shrub prized for its vibrant, late-summer to early-fall clusters of small, fragrant blue flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Originating from a hybridization in the early 20th century between Caryopteris incana and Caryopteris mongholica, this cultivar is valued for its drought tolerance, deer resistance, and ease of care, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils. The silvery-green foliage provides a striking backdrop to the vivid blooms, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and pollinator gardens. Bluebeard is also noted for its relatively long blooming period and ability to rebloom with proper pruning. Its ornamental appeal and ecological benefits have earned it recognition in various garden circles as a reliable, low-maintenance perennial shrub.
