Description
Carex elata ‘Bowles Golden’, commonly known as Bowles Golden Sedge, is a striking ornamental grass valued for its vibrant golden-yellow variegated foliage that adds a bright, architectural element to gardens and landscapes. This deciduous sedge features arching, grass-like leaves with bold yellow stripes contrasted by green margins, creating a dynamic texture and color contrast throughout the growing season. Native to wetlands and marshy areas of Europe, Carex elata is well adapted to moist or even wet soils, making ‘Bowles Golden’ an excellent choice for rain gardens, pond edges, or consistently damp sites where it can thrive. Its clumping habit and moderate height provide effective ground cover and erosion control, while also offering habitat for wildlife, particularly in naturalized settings. Highly regarded for its low maintenance needs and tolerance to partial shade, this cultivar has become a popular selection in contemporary garden designs seeking year-round visual interest. Notably, ‘Bowles Golden’ has received recognition from various horticultural societies for its ornamental appeal and versatility in diverse landscape conditions.
