Description
Callicarpa dichotoma ‘Early Amethyst’ Beautyberry is a deciduous shrub prized for its vibrant and abundant clusters of small, iridescent purple berries that emerge in early fall, adding striking color to the landscape well before many other berry-producing plants. Native to East Asia, this variety is noted for its early fruiting compared to other beautyberries, making it a standout feature in autumn gardens. The plant features arching, slender branches with ovate, serrated green leaves that turn a subtle yellow in fall, providing multi-season interest. Its small, lavender-pink flowers bloom in summer, attracting pollinators, but it is the vivid berries that primarily draw attention, persisting into winter and providing food for birds. ‘Early Amethyst’ is valued for its adaptability to various soil types, tolerance of drought once established, and ability to thrive in both full sun and partial shade. This cultivar has gained recognition for its ornamental appeal and ease of care, making it a favored selection for wildlife gardens and naturalized landscapes.
