Description
Betula pendula ‘Youngii’, commonly known as the Weeping Birch, is a striking ornamental tree prized for its graceful, pendulous branches that create a cascading canopy effect. Originating from the European silver birch species, this cultivar features slender, white bark that exfoliates to reveal a smooth, silvery surface beneath, adding year-round visual interest. Its delicate, triangular leaves emerge bright green in spring, turning vibrant yellow in autumn, providing seasonal color contrast. The ‘Youngii’ weeping habit was first noted in the early 20th century and has since become a favored specimen in landscape design for its elegant form and adaptability to various soil types and climates. This tree thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, offering moderate growth and relatively low maintenance. The Weeping Birch is also valued for its ability to create a serene focal point in gardens and parks, combining aesthetic appeal with the natural beauty and resilience characteristic of birch species.
