Description
Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’ (commonly known as Powis Castle Wormwood) is a striking perennial shrub prized for its finely dissected, silvery-gray foliage that offers exceptional texture and color contrast in garden landscapes. Originating in the early 20th century from a hybridization of Artemisia arborescens and Artemisia absinthium, this cultivar was discovered in the garden of Powis Castle in Wales, lending it its distinctive name. Renowned for its drought tolerance and low maintenance requirements, ‘Powis Castle’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, making it an ideal choice for xeriscaping and coastal gardens. Its aromatic, feathery leaves not only provide ornamental value but also serve as a natural pest deterrent. The plant’s upright, mounding habit typically reaches 2 to 3 feet in height and width, creating a soft, billowy effect that complements mixed borders and Mediterranean-style landscapes. Recognized for its garden merit, Artemisia ‘Powis Castle’ has been celebrated by horticultural communities for its enduring beauty and resilience, earning a place among favored ornamental foliage plants.
