Description
Amsonia x ‘Blue Ice’ Bluestar is a striking perennial known for its vibrant blue star-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer, creating a soft, airy display in the garden. This hybrid cultivar is prized for its compact, mounded growth habit, typically reaching 12 to 18 inches in height, making it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, and foundation plantings. Its finely textured, slender leaves emerge a bright green in spring, turning to a brilliant golden yellow in the fall, adding multi-season interest. Amsonia x ‘Blue Ice’ is a cross between Amsonia hubrichtii and Amsonia illustris, combining the best traits of both parents: the delicate foliage and fall color of A. hubrichtii with the prolific, intense blue flowers of A. illustris. This cultivar is valued for its drought tolerance once established, resistance to deer and pests, and adaptability to a range of soil types and sun exposures, from full sun to partial shade. Recognized for its ornamental qualities and low maintenance requirements, ‘Blue Ice’ offers a unique blend of texture, color, and form that enhances perennial garden designs.
