Description
Aloe striata, commonly known as Coral Aloe, is a striking succulent native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, celebrated for its smooth, fleshy leaves edged with distinctive coral-red margins that give the plant its common name. Unlike many other aloes, Coral Aloe features broad, flat leaves free from spines, creating an elegant, sculptural appearance ideal for xeriscaping and rock gardens. This drought-tolerant perennial produces tall, slender flower spikes adorned with tubular, coral-pink blossoms that attract pollinators such as hummingbirds and bees, adding vibrant color to landscapes from late winter through spring. The plant thrives in well-drained soils under full sun to partial shade and is valued for its low maintenance and resilience in warm climates, making it a popular choice in water-wise and Mediterranean-style gardens. Recognized for its ornamental appeal, Aloe striata has been noted by horticultural experts and featured in drought-tolerant plant collections, underscoring its role as a standout succulent with both aesthetic and ecological benefits.
