Description
Adenium obesum, commonly known as Desert Rose, is a striking succulent native to the arid regions of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, prized for its bulbous, swollen trunk and vibrant, trumpet-shaped flowers that range in color from deep pink to red and white. This drought-tolerant plant is celebrated for its unique caudiciform growth habit, where the thickened stem stores water, enabling survival in harsh, dry environments. The Desert Rose thrives in well-draining soil and full sun, making it a popular choice for xeriscaping and container gardening. Its glossy, dark green leaves and sculptural form add year-round visual interest, while its blooms typically appear from spring through summer. Historically, Adenium obesum has been cultivated in bonsai form in various cultures due to its dramatic shape and ease of shaping. Renowned for both its ornamental appeal and adaptability, the Desert Rose has garnered attention among gardeners and collectors alike for its blend of resilience and exotic beauty.
