Description
Acer truncatum x platanoides ‘Keithsform’, commonly known as the Norwegian Sunset® Maple, is a striking hybrid maple valued for its exceptional autumn display and robust growth habits. This cultivar combines the best traits of the Shantung maple (Acer truncatum) and the Norway maple (Acer platanoides), resulting in a tree that features deeply lobed, maple-shaped leaves that transition through a brilliant spectrum of colors in fall, including vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows, creating a “sunset” effect that inspires its name. It is prized for its adaptability to various soil types, moderate drought tolerance, and resistance to common pests and diseases, which makes it an excellent choice for urban landscapes and street tree planting. The Norwegian Sunset® Maple typically grows to a medium height with an upright, rounded canopy, providing both shade and architectural interest throughout the seasons. Its hybrid origin also confers a faster growth rate and superior cold hardiness compared to its parent species, making it well-suited for temperate climates. Recognized for its ornamental appeal and durability, the Norwegian Sunset® Maple has gained popularity among landscapers and tree enthusiasts seeking a versatile and visually impactful shade tree.
