Description
Acer buergerianum, commonly known as Trident Maple, is a deciduous tree native to eastern China, valued for its distinctive three-lobed leaves that resemble a trident, giving the tree its common name. This medium-sized maple typically grows 20 to 30 feet tall and is prized for its dense, rounded crown and smooth gray bark that matures to a rich brown, making it an excellent choice for urban landscapes and bonsai cultivation. Trident Maple is highly adaptable, tolerating a range of soil types and showing notable resistance to pollution and drought once established. Its vibrant fall foliage, which transitions through shades of yellow, orange, and red, adds seasonal interest and aesthetic appeal. The species has been widely used in ornamental horticulture and is recognized for its ease of maintenance and strong structural form, making it a favorite among landscape designers. The Trident Maple has also gained recognition in bonsai circles for its fine branching and small leaves, contributing to its reputation as a versatile and decorative tree.
