Description
Abelia x grandiflora ‘Edward Goucher’, commonly known as Glossy Abelia, is a hybrid deciduous shrub prized for its dense, glossy, dark green foliage and prolific display of fragrant, tubular, pale pink to white flowers that bloom from late spring through fall. Developed as a cultivar of Abelia x grandiflora—a natural hybrid between Abelia chinensis and Abelia uniflora—this variety was selected for its exceptional glossy leaf texture and improved compact habit, making it ideal for foundation plantings, hedges, and mixed borders. The plant’s arching branches offer a graceful form, and its ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies adds ecological value to gardens. Renowned for its adaptability, Glossy Abelia thrives in a range of soil types and exhibits good drought tolerance once established. Its combination of ornamental foliage and extended flowering season has made ‘Edward Goucher’ a favored choice in landscape design with a longstanding presence in ornamental horticulture.
