Description
Viola x wittrockiana ‘Deep Blue Blotch’ Pansy is a striking ornamental hybrid known for its large, vividly colored flowers featuring deep blue petals accented by a distinctive dark blotch at the center, creating a dramatic and eye-catching contrast. This cultivar, part of the popular pansy group, is prized for its cool-season performance, thriving in mild temperatures and offering prolonged blooms through spring and fall. Originating from extensive breeding efforts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the pansy combines the wild pansy (Viola tricolor) with cultivated varieties to enhance flower size, color intensity, and vigor. Its unique blotch pattern not only adds ornamental appeal but also serves as a nectar guide for pollinators, making it a favorite in garden beds, containers, and borders. Recognized for its adaptability and showy flowers, the ‘Deep Blue Blotch’ pansy continues to be a favored choice among gardeners and landscapers for adding vibrant color and texture to cool-season landscapes.
