Description
Dahlia pinnata, commonly known as Garden Dahlia, is a striking tuberous perennial native to Mexico and Central America, renowned for its vibrant, showy blooms that come in a wide spectrum of colors ranging from deep reds and purples to bright yellows and pinks. This species is the foundation for many cultivated dahlias, prized for their large, symmetrical flowers and lush, dark green foliage. Garden Dahlias are versatile in landscape design, thriving in full sun with well-drained soil and offering a long blooming season from mid-summer through fall. Historically, dahlias were first introduced to Europe in the late 18th century, quickly becoming popular for their ornamental value and adaptability. Their unique ability to produce tuberous roots makes them easy to propagate and overwinter in cooler climates. Garden Dahlias have been celebrated in horticultural circles for their impressive floral diversity and contribution to hybrid development, maintaining a beloved status in garden culture worldwide.
