Description
Viburnum trilobum ‘Bailey Compact’, commonly known as Highbush Cranberry, is a dense, compact cultivar prized for its ornamental appeal and robust adaptability. Native to North America, this deciduous shrub features deeply lobed, three-part leaves that provide vibrant green foliage through the growing season, turning brilliant shades of scarlet and crimson in the fall. In late spring, it produces clusters of fragrant white flowers that attract pollinators, followed by bright red, berry-like drupes that persist into winter, offering valuable food for birds and wildlife. ‘Bailey Compact’ is especially favored for its smaller, more manageable size compared to the species, making it an excellent choice for hedges, foundation plantings, and wildlife gardens. Its tolerance to cold climates, resistance to common pests and diseases, and preference for moist, well-drained soils enhance its versatility in landscape design. Recognized for its compact habit and ornamental qualities, Viburnum trilobum remains a popular selection among gardeners seeking a multi-season interest shrub with ecological benefits.
