Description
Weigela florida ‘Midnight Wine’ ® is a striking deciduous shrub renowned for its deep burgundy-purple foliage that provides bold, year-round color and contrasts beautifully with its delicate pink tubular flowers in late spring to early summer. Originating from the native Weigela species found in East Asia, this cultivar was developed to enhance ornamental appeal by combining vibrant foliage with attractive blooms, making it a popular choice for landscape accents and foundation plantings. ‘Midnight Wine’ is prized for its compact, rounded habit, vigorous growth, and adaptability to a range of soil types and light conditions, thriving in full sun to partial shade. Its unique foliage coloration not only adds dramatic texture to gardens but also makes it an excellent companion plant to lighter-leaved perennials and shrubs. This cultivar has gained recognition for its ornamental value, contributing to its widespread use in residential and commercial landscapes.
