Description
Viola cornuta ‘Orange’, commonly known as the Orange Horned Violet, is a charming perennial that belongs to the Violaceae family. Originating from the mountainous regions of the Pyrenees, this species is prized for its vibrant orange blossoms that feature delicate dark markings near the center, creating a striking contrast against its heart-shaped, green foliage. The “horned” descriptor refers to the distinctive pointed spur on the back of each flower, a characteristic trait of this species. Viola cornuta ‘Orange’ thrives in cooler climates and is valued for its long blooming season, extending from spring through fall, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and ground cover in partially shaded gardens. It is also appreciated for its tolerance to heat and drought once established, relative to other violets. This cultivar’s vibrant coloration and adaptability have earned it recognition in the horticultural community, affirming its place as a standout selection among violas.
