Description
Buxus x ‘Green Mound’ is a compact, evergreen shrub renowned for its dense, lush foliage and rounded mound-like growth habit, making it a quintessential choice for foundational plantings and low hedges in landscapes. Originating as a hybrid boxwood cultivar, it combines the hardiness and adaptability of Buxus species, thriving in USDA zones 5 to 9 with excellent tolerance to pruning, which allows for precise shaping and formality in garden designs. ‘Green Mound’ features small, glossy green leaves that remain vibrant throughout the year, contributing year-round interest and structure to garden beds and borders. This cultivar is particularly valued for its slow growth rate and disease resistance, including resilience to boxwood blight and leaf miner damage, enhancing its longevity and ease of maintenance. Historically, boxwoods have long been prized in European and American gardens dating back centuries for their ornamental versatility and evergreen presence, with ‘Green Mound’ representing a refined selection that blends classic beauty with modern landscape demands.
