Description
Spigelia marilandica ‘Little Redhead’, commonly known as Indian Pink, is a striking perennial native to the woodlands of the southeastern United States. Renowned for its vibrant tubular red flowers with bright yellow interiors, this cultivar offers a more compact and floriferous form compared to the species, making it an excellent choice for shaded garden borders and woodland settings. The plant thrives in moist, well-drained soils and partial to full shade, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies with its nectar-rich blooms from late spring through early summer. Historically used by Native Americans for medicinal purposes, the Indian Pink is appreciated today for its unique, vivid coloration and adaptability to shady landscapes, providing a splash of color where many plants struggle. Its enduring popularity among gardeners and landscape professionals underscores its value as both a pollinator-friendly and aesthetically captivating native perennial.
