Description
Dianthus chinensis Coronet™ ‘Purple’, commonly known as China Pinks, is a charming annual flowering plant prized for its vibrant, richly colored purple blooms with a distinctive fringed petal edge. This cultivar belongs to the Dianthus genus, renowned for its spicy, clove-like fragrance and attractive, compact growth habit, typically reaching 8 to 12 inches in height. Originating from East Asia, Dianthus chinensis has been cultivated for centuries for ornamental use, valued in both traditional and modern gardens for its long blooming season from late spring through fall. The Coronet™ series enhances these classic traits with improved flower form and color intensity, making it especially popular in borders, containers, and mass plantings. Its heat and drought tolerance combined with easy culture in well-drained soil supports robust garden performance, while the mounding habit creates a tidy, elegant display. This variety’s consistent flowering and striking purple hue have earned it recognition among gardeners seeking vivid, low-maintenance annuals for sunny locations.
