Description
Canna x ‘Pretoria’ is a striking cultivar of the Canna Lily, renowned for its bold, tropical appearance and vibrant foliage. This perennial plant features large, paddle-shaped leaves that often display a rich burgundy or deep bronze hue, providing a dramatic contrast to its bright, orange-red flowers that bloom profusely throughout the summer and into early fall. Originating from hybridizations in the 19th and 20th centuries, Cannas have long been prized for their ability to thrive in warm climates and wet soils, making them ideal for water gardens, borders, and tropical-themed landscapes. ‘Pretoria’ is particularly valued for its vigorous growth habit, disease resistance, and ability to attract pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies. Its architectural form and lush appearance bring a vibrant, exotic flair to garden settings, often highlighted in mixed plantings or as a standalone specimen. The cultivar has earned recognition for its ornamental appeal and adaptability, underscoring its status as a favorite among gardeners seeking bold color and texture in their landscapes.
