Description
Hosta ‘Royal Standard’ is a striking variety of plantain lily celebrated for its large, glossy, deep green leaves that provide a lush, architectural presence in shade gardens. This vigorous cultivar features broad, heart-shaped foliage with a slightly rippled texture, making it an excellent choice for adding texture and drama to woodland or shaded borders. Known for its resilience and adaptability, ‘Royal Standard’ thrives in a range of soil types and prefers partial to full shade, embodying the classic traits that have made hostas a beloved perennial in temperate landscapes since their cultivation began in Japan centuries ago. Additionally, this hosta produces delicate lavender flowers on tall scapes during midsummer, attracting pollinators and adding seasonal interest beyond its foliage. The ‘Royal Standard’ cultivar has garnered recognition for its robust growth and ornamental value, frequently recommended by horticultural experts such as the Missouri Botanical Garden and NC State Extension for shade gardens and naturalized settings.
