Description
Acer rubrum ‘Florida Flame’ is a striking cultivar of the native Red Maple renowned for its vibrant, fiery red foliage that emerges in early spring and often persists throughout the growing season. This deciduous tree is prized for its adaptability to a wide range of soil types and moisture conditions, thriving in both wet and well-drained sites, which makes it a versatile choice for landscapes across the eastern United States. Unlike many other red maples that display a mix of red, orange, and yellow hues, ‘Florida Flame’ features intensely red leaves that provide dramatic seasonal color, making it a favorite for ornamental use in residential and public gardens. Its moderately fast growth rate and relatively compact form allow it to fit well in urban and suburban settings. Historically, the Red Maple (Acer rubrum) has been an important species in North American forestry and horticulture due to its ecological benefits and aesthetic appeal. ‘Florida Flame’ stands out as a superior selection for gardeners seeking a bold splash of red foliage with the hardiness and resilience characteristic of the species.
