Description
Begonia semperflorens ‘Mixture’, commonly known as Green Leaf Wax Begonia, is a versatile and popular annual prized for its glossy, succulent-like green foliage and profuse blooms that can range in color from white to pink to red. Native to tropical regions of South America, this species has been cultivated extensively for its heat and humidity tolerance, making it an excellent choice for both garden beds and container planting in warm climates. The plant’s waxy leaves help reduce water loss, contributing to its drought resistance and overall hardiness. Its compact, bushy habit and continuous flowering from spring through fall add ongoing visual interest to landscapes. Wax Begonias thrive in partial shade but can tolerate full sun with adequate moisture, and they are commonly used in mass plantings, borders, and shaded patios. The cultivar ‘Green Leaf Mix’ is especially valued for the attractive contrast between vibrant blooms and rich green foliage, offering a classic combination that complements a wide range of garden styles. This Begonia variety has been recognized for its garden performance and reliability, often earning recommendations from horticultural experts for low-maintenance, high-impact color in landscape design.
