Description
Angelonia angustifolia, commonly known as Summer Snapdragon, is a heat-loving annual or tender perennial prized for its vibrant, snapdragon-like flowers that bloom profusely from summer through fall. Native to Mexico and the West Indies, this plant is valued for its upright growth habit, narrow glossy leaves, and long-lasting floral spikes in shades of purple, pink, white, and blue, making it a popular choice for sunny borders, containers, and mass plantings. Angelonia is highly tolerant of heat and humidity, thriving in well-drained soil with full sun exposure, and demonstrating remarkable drought resistance once established. Its unique ability to continue flowering during the hottest months sets it apart from other summer bloomers. Gardeners and landscape designers appreciate Summer Snapdragon for its deer resistance and low maintenance requirements, contributing to its widespread use in warm climate gardens. This plant has gained recognition for its dependable performance and ornamental appeal in various horticultural trials.
