Description
Prunus caroliniana ‘Compacta’, commonly known as Compact Cherry Laurel, is a dense, evergreen shrub prized for its glossy, dark green foliage and compact growth habit. Native to the southeastern United States, this cultivar is a smaller, more manageable form of the Carolina Cherry Laurel, making it ideal for hedges, screens, and foundation plantings where space is limited. It features small, white, fragrant spring blossoms that attract pollinators and later produces small black berries, adding seasonal interest. Renowned for its adaptability, ‘Compacta’ thrives in a variety of soil types and exhibits excellent drought and heat tolerance once established. Its neat, bushy form requires minimal pruning, making it a popular choice for low-maintenance landscapes. The plant’s ability to provide year-round privacy and its resilience in urban environments have contributed to its enduring popularity in southern and transitional gardens.
