Description
Deutzia gracilis ‘Nikko’, commonly known as Slender Deutzia, is a compact, deciduous shrub prized for its delicate, arching branches adorned with an abundance of star-shaped white flowers that bloom profusely in late spring. Native to Japan, this cultivar is valued for its graceful form and fine-textured foliage, which emerges bright green in spring and often takes on a yellowish hue by summer, adding seasonal interest. Slender Deutzia typically grows to a modest height of 3 to 4 feet, making it an excellent choice for borders, low hedges, and mixed shrub plantings. Its adaptability to a range of soil types, combined with moderate drought tolerance once established, makes it a low-maintenance option for gardeners seeking spring floral impact without extensive care. The ‘Nikko’ selection is renowned for its prolific, long-lasting blooms and tidy growth habit, characteristics that have earned it recognition from horticultural societies for its ornamental appeal in temperate landscapes.
